TCI Transportation is a locally built phone app for the Turks & Caicos Islands. It connects residents and visitors with licensed taxi and community cab drivers. The app uses the official government taxi rates β no extra charges, no surprises.
Today, a driver picks up a guest at the airport, drops them at their hotel, and earns one fare. That guest stays for a week and wants to explore β but has no easy way to book the same driver again. The money from the rest of their stay is lost. TCI Transportation lets the guest book the same driver again and again β turning one airport ride into a whole week of work. This document explains the fees (paid by the guest, not the driver), how much you can earn, safety features, and how the partnership works. TCI Transportation works with the association, not around it.

The Turks & Caicos Islands welcomed just under 2 million visitors in 2025. Our focus is on the 640,748 guests who flew into PLS airport and stayed 5β7 days. These are the people who need multiple rides during their visit β the biggest opportunity for licensed Providenciales taxi drivers.
These guests use their phones for everything back home β including booking rides with a tap. But in TCI, getting a taxi means calling a dispatcher, waiting in a hotel line, or waving one down on the street. The guests want rides. The drivers are here. What's missing is a simple app to connect them.

Day 1: Guest arrives at PLS airport
Driver picks up guest, drives to hotel. One fare earned.
Day 1β6: Guest wants to explore
Wants rides to restaurants, beaches, shops, tours. No easy way to find the same driver. Guest asks hotel concierge, uses a rental car, or walks.
Day 7: Guest departs
Books return taxi through hotel. May or may not be the same driver. Another single fare.
The result: 1β2 fares from a guest who needed 5β10 rides.
A week-long guest might spend $250β$500 on transportation. The traditional model captures only $50β$75. The rest goes to rental cars, hotel shuttles, or is lost because the guest couldn't find a taxi when they needed one.
TCI Transportation connects guests with licensed TCI taxi drivers before, during, and after their trip. The guest enters pickup and destination, sees the official fare upfront, and gets matched with a nearby licensed driver. After the ride, they can re-book the same driver with two taps β keeping the connection alive for the entire stay.
Guest books in the app
Enters pickup & destination, sees official fare, requests ride
Licensed driver accepts
Nearby driver receives request, accepts, and heads to pickup
Live tracking
Guest watches driver approach in real time, sees ETA and fare
Trip completes
Guest pays fare + fee, rates driver, and can re-book for next trip
The interface is clean, simple, and available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

Guest enters pickup and destination. Popular locations (hotels, restaurants, beaches, airport) are pre-loaded for quick selection.
App shows ride types with the official fare for each β calculated automatically from the Providenciales rate sheet. Guest selects Taxi, VIP Taxi, or Community Cab.
Request broadcasts to nearby licensed drivers. First to accept gets the ride. Guest sees driver's name, photo, vehicle, and live ETA.
Fare is locked at booking. No surprises, no haggling. Guest pays cash or card directly to the driver at the end of the trip.
Drivers use a separate app with a simple dashboard. Go online and offline whenever you want β no shifts, no quotas. See pickup, destination, and fare before accepting.

π The re-booking feature is the key revenue driver
After each trip, the guest sees a "Book Again" button. One tap re-books the same driver β whether that's dinner tonight, a beach run tomorrow, or the airport return at the end of the week. This is how one airport pickup becomes a week of recurring fares.
A realistic comparison for a Providenciales taxi driver over a single week during tourist season. Same driver, same car, same official fares β the only difference is whether guests can find and re-book you through the app.
After the airport drop-off, the guest is gone. You wait in queues and hope for the next hail.
+$686 more every week β from guests you already picked up.
One driver, typical tourist-season hours in Providenciales, using official government fares. The base fare covers 2 passengers β each extra person pays half fare. Airport trips often have families of 3 or more, so they pay more than local trips with just 2 people.
| Trip Type | Trips | Avg Persons | Avg Fare | Fee (Guest) | Driver Earns |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport β Hotel (families) | 5 | 3 | $48 | $3 | $240 |
| Re-booked by guests (dinner, beach, shopping) | 18 | 2 | $20 | $3 | $360 |
| New app bookings (hotels, walk-ups) | 12 | 2 | $18 | $3 | $216 |
| Return to airport (families) | 5 | 3 | $48 | $3 | $240 |
| TOTAL (40 trips) | 40 | ~2.3 | β | $120 | $936 |
The driver collects $1,056 total from guests. The $120 in fees is covered by credits bought earlier, so the driver keeps $936.
Here's what a driver can earn across a full year, broken down by season:

Annual net earnings
| Period | Weeks | Trips/wk | Weekly Net | Period Earnings |

| Off season (AugβNov) | 18 | 15 | $330 | $5,940 |
| ANNUAL TOTAL | 52 | ~28 avg | β | $32,876 |
vs. traditional taxi: ~$13,000/year
More than double what a traditional taxi earns β an extra $2,950/month during peak season β just by staying connected to guests for their whole stay. No extra hours, no extra fuel, no waiting in queues.
Drivers never pay out of pocket. The guest pays the official fare plus a small platform fee on top. Before going online, the driver buys ride credits in the app (using Stripe β no trips to the office). Each trip uses one credit. That's it β no weekly payments to make, no money to chase, no monthly fees, no hidden costs.
| Service | Description | Fee (Guest Pays) |
|---|---|---|
| Community Cab | Shared-ride public transport | $1.00 |
| Taxi | Standard licensed taxi (official flat fares) | $3.00 |
| VIP Taxi | Premium taxi (1.5Γ official fare) | $5.00 |
The guest pays the fare plus the fee directly to the driver (cash or card). The driver keeps the full fare. The platform fee was already paid for by the credit.
Already built in β no paper rate sheet needed
The official Providenciales taxi rates from the government's CAP. 13.01 Road Traffic law are built right into the app. When a guest enters where they are and where they want to go, the app shows the correct official fare. The base fare covers 2 passengers β each extra person pays half fare, figured out automatically. The government's rates are followed on every trip.
Covered zones:
If the government changes the rates, we update the app so everyone uses the new prices right away.
Airport pickups are a core use case. TCI Transportation includes built-in flight tracking so drivers know exactly when a guest's flight lands β even if it's early or delayed.
Flight number entry
Guest enters their flight number. The app tracks the live arrival time.
Auto-adjust pickup time
If the flight is delayed, the pickup time adjusts automatically. No missed connections.
Meet & Greet option
Guest can request a name sign at arrivals. Premium service for VIP and hotel guests.
Fast Track add-on
Guests can request Fast Track immigration service. Driver coordinates with the Fast Track team.
No more waiting around for delayed flights β the app tells you when to leave. Every airport pickup is tracked and given to a licensed driver.
Hotels and resorts send a lot of ride requests. TCI Transportation works easily with hotel concierge desks:
Pre-loaded hotel locations
Every major hotel in Providenciales is pre-loaded as a pickup/dropoff option. Guests select by name β no address typing.
Concierge web link
Concierges could send guests a booking link via SMS or WhatsApp. The guest books without downloading the app.
Preferred driver system (proposed)
Hotels could designate preferred drivers. Hotel guest bookings would go to that driver first. Subject to hotel agreement.
Hotel ride reports (proposed)
Hotels could receive monthly reports on guest usage, wait times, and satisfaction. Subject to hotel agreement.
VIP Taxi is a premium service at 1.5Γ the official taxi fare, with a $5/trip fee (paid by the guest). Only drivers with 4.8+ ratings can do VIP trips.
Premium vehicles
Newer, well-maintained vehicles. SUVs and luxury sedans.
Top-rated drivers
Only drivers with 4.8+ ratings qualify for VIP service.
Amenities managed by driver
Each VIP driver manages their own amenities β some offer complimentary water, others charge for water and cold towels.
Concierge-level service
VIP drivers provide a higher standard of care, with details handled at the driver's discretion.
Earnings example: An airport-to-Grace-Bay trip that costs $30 as a standard taxi earns $45 as VIP. The guest pays $45 + $5 fee = $50. The driver keeps $45.
Airport VIP arrivals are managed by the airport dispatch system. TCI Transportation coordinates with that process rather than replacing it.
Community Cab is a shared-ride service for local residents and budget travelers. The fare is flat per person based on distance, per TCI law.
| Distance | Fare per Passenger | Platform Fee (Guest) |
|---|---|---|
| Short (up to 5 km) | $5.00 | $1.00 |
| Medium (up to 15 km) | $7.00 | $1.00 |
| Long (15+ km) | $9.00 | $1.00 |
β οΈ Hotel zone restriction
Community Cabs cannot operate in hotel zones β hotel zones are reserved for licensed taxi operators. Community Cab pickups and dropoffs are limited to non-hotel areas.
Guests can schedule rides in advance β perfect for airport departures, dinner reservations, and tour pickups. Drivers see scheduled rides in their dashboard and can plan their day around them.
Guest books a ride for a future date and time (e.g., airport return on Friday at 6 AM).
A driver confirms the reservation. Both receive a reminder notification before the pickup time.
Guests can modify or cancel up to 1 hour before the scheduled time with no penalty.
Every ride is tracked, every driver is verified, and both drivers and guests have access to emergency features.
Panic button
Both driver and guest have a panic button that alerts the admin team with live GPS.
Live GPS tracking
Every trip is tracked in real time. Route, pickup, and destination are logged.
Driver verification
Only licensed, association-approved drivers are activated. License and insurance verified.
Driver photo
Guests see the driver's photo and vehicle before pickup. No surprises at the door.
In-app chat
Driver and guest communicate through the app without sharing phone numbers.
Two-way ratings
Guests rate drivers, drivers rate guests. Low-rated users are reviewed and removed.
Only licensed, association-approved drivers can join. The sign-up process supports the licensing system β it doesn't skip around it.
Driver submits an application with their taxi license number, vehicle details, and contact info.
The Taxi Association confirms the driver is licensed and in good standing. Only then is the account activated. Subject to agreement.
Once approved, the driver toggles online and starts receiving ride requests immediately.
If a driver loses their license or is removed from the association, their TCI Transportation account is turned off right away.
Everything a driver needs to manage their business:
Online/offline toggle
Go online and offline with one tap. Only receive requests when you're ready.
Live earnings tracker
Today's and this week's earnings in real time, including trip count and average fare.
Trip history
Full log of every trip with pickup, destination, fare, and guest rating.
Scheduled rides
See upcoming reservations and plan your day around them.
In-app chat & navigation
Communicate with guests without sharing your number. Turn-by-turn directions built in.
Credit management
See remaining ride credits and purchase more in one tap via Stripe β no office visits.
Full record of your money
Every trip, every credit purchase, and every dollar earned is saved in the app. The driver can see it all anytime. This makes taxes easy. You always know exactly how much you've made and how many credits you have left.
It's simple: buy credits before going online, each trip uses one credit ($1 for Community Cab, $3 for Taxi, $5 for VIP), and you get a receipt for each purchase. Easy, clear, and ready for tax time.
Drivers have direct access to the TCI Transportation support team for any issue.
Direct support line
Call or message the support team directly from the app.
Dispute resolution
If a guest disputes a fare or leaves an unfair rating, the support team investigates and resolves it.
No-show reporting
If a guest no-shows, report it through the app. Repeat no-shows are removed from the platform.
Technical support
App not working? The team troubleshoots remotely and gets you back online fast.
We spend on marketing and partnerships to bring more guests to the app, which means more rides for drivers:
App Store presence
Listed on Apple App Store and Google Play, searchable for 'TCI taxi', 'Turks Caicos rides'.
Web booking
Guests can book through the website without downloading the app β perfect for one-time users.
Hotel partnerships
Booking links in welcome packets, room directories, and concierge desks.
Airport QR codes
QR codes at the airport and tourism kiosks direct arriving guests to the app.
Google Ads
Targeted advertising reaches travelers searching for TCI transportation before they arrive.
Tour operator partnerships
Tour operators and excursion companies recommend the app to their guests.
The guest journey:
Under the proposed partnership, the Taxi Association would see big-picture data to help with planning β but no one's personal information is shared.
Trip volume
Total rides per day, week, and month β by island and zone.
Popular routes
Most-requested pickup and dropoff zones, showing where demand is concentrated.
Peak hours
When demand is highest, so the association can ensure enough drivers are available.
Fare revenue
Total fares collected across all drivers β a measure of the platform's economic impact.
Driver performance
Average ratings by driver, helping identify training needs and top performers.
Growth trends
Month-over-month and year-over-year growth in rides and revenue.
All data is grouped together with names removed. No one's personal earnings or guest details are ever shared without permission.
TCI Transportation follows the rules β it doesn't break them.
Official fare enforcement
The app uses the official government rates. Drivers can't charge more or less than the official price. The rates are enforced automatically.
Licensed drivers only
Only drivers with a valid TCI taxi license, approved by the association, can drive. Unlicensed drivers can't use the app.
Vehicle compliance
Vehicle info (plate, model, capacity) is recorded and checked during sign-up.
Government coordination (proposed)
We would work with the Ministry of Tourism and the Taxi Commission to follow all local rules. Subject to agreement with the authorities.
Audit trail
Every trip is logged with the time, route, fare, and driver name β a complete record for any review.

Peak (DecβApr)
$936/wk
High tourist volume. Full schedule. Maximum re-booking.
Shoulder (MayβJul)
$560/wk
Moderate tourism. Regular bookings from hotels and residents.
Off (AugβNov)
$330/wk
Lower volume. Local residents and repeat visitors sustain demand.
Even in the slow season, TCI Transportation earns more than a traditional taxi because it gets local resident rides (Community Cab) and scheduled trips that regular taxis miss.
As more guests and hotels join TCI Transportation, each driver earns more year after year β without doing anything different.
| Year | App Users | Hotel Partners | Trips/wk (avg) | Annual Earnings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | 2,000 | 5 | 28 | $32,876 |
| Year 2 | 5,000 | 12 | 35 | $41,100 |
| Year 3 | 10,000 | 20 | 42 | $49,300 |
More guests and hotel partners means more ride requests each week β more money for the same work. As the app grows, every driver benefits.
We train every driver so they're comfortable with the app from day one.
App training session
1-hour hands-on session covering the driver app, accepting requests, navigation, and earnings.
Driver guide & video tutorials
Printed quick-reference guide plus short video walkthroughs of every feature, accessible anytime.
Ongoing support
Monthly check-ins, a direct support line, and tips from top-earning drivers on maximizing re-bookings.
Language support
Training materials available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
Here's the plan for getting the Taxi Association and its members started:
Association meeting & agreement
Present the platform, review the fee structure, sign the partnership agreement.
Driver recruitment & onboarding
Association approves drivers. Drivers download the app and complete applications.
Training program
Group training sessions for all approved drivers. Distribute guides and set up support contacts.
Soft launch
Platform goes live for a small group of drivers and hotels. Monitor, gather feedback, fix issues.
Full launch
All approved drivers online. Marketing campaign begins. Airport QR codes and hotel partnerships go live.
First review
Review earnings data, driver feedback, and guest ratings. Plan expansion to other islands.
Fair and clear for both sides. Key terms (proposed, subject to agreement):
The Taxi Association decides who gets approved and who gets removed.
The app uses the official government rates. If the government changes rates, we update the app right away.
Guests pay the fees, not drivers. The association can review the fee structure anytime.
The association gets monthly reports on total rides, popular routes, and busy times. Personal driver and guest info stays private.
Either side can end the partnership with 90 days' notice. Any disputes are worked out by talking directly, with the Taxi Commission stepping in if needed.
Q: Do I have to pay to join?
A: No. No signup fee, no monthly subscription, no equipment to buy. The platform fee is paid by the guest on top of the fare β you never pay out of pocket.
Q: Can I still take street hails and hotel queue pickups?
A: Absolutely. The app is an additional source of requests. Accept app rides when online, take street hails when offline. No exclusivity requirement.
Q: What if a guest doesn't pay?
A: The support team investigates and the guest is banned from future bookings. We encourage drivers to collect payment at the end of each trip and report issues promptly.
Q: Do I have to work certain hours?
A: No. Go online and offline whenever you want. No shifts, no quotas, no minimum hours.
Q: Can the association change the fees?
A: The fee structure is agreed jointly. Any changes require consultation with the association. Drivers are notified 30 days in advance.
Q: What about guests who don't have smartphones?
A: Guests can book through the website without downloading the app. Hotel concierges can also book on behalf of guests.
We'd love to have the Taxi Association as a founding partner. Here's how to get started:
